In Alabama, beginning no later than the first IEP in effect when the student turns 16 or is entering 9th grade, or earlier if appropriate, transition must be addressed. It is required by law that your IEP includes transition goals and services. You must be invited to your IEP meeting to discuss this Transition Plan which will assist you as you move into adult life. This transition plan will update goals and services each year until you graduate.
The Transition Plan you will develop must include long term and annual goals, services and activities to assist you in achieving your desired outcomes. In Alabama, by the time you are 18 or older, you must be informed on how your rights will change when you officially become an adult at 19 years old. This transition plan will update goals and services each year until you graduate.
